About Us
Within Philadelphia beats the heart of America’s history and birth. A city of international acclaim and architectural beauty, Philadelphia is fast-paced and full of the proverbial hustle and bustle. A place where the masses teem and the work never slows, Philadelphians have few refuges of true peace and tranquility away from the pressures of city living...that's where we come in. Our sprawling grounds and beautiful historic buildings will have you questioning if you truly are just 15 minutes outside of Philadelphia!
Founded in 1854, our 14-acre site was designed by the renowned architectural firm McKim, Meade, and White, and received National Historic Landmark status in 1987. Since that time, GCC has played host and bore witness to a countless number of historic moments. From becoming a founding member of what is now the USTA, to hosting the first-ever Princeton v. UPenn football game and U.S. Championship for Women, to Davis Cup matches, and numerous tennis, squash, and cricket championships. GCC truly has a rich sporting heritage of which we could not be more proud and are constantly striving to preserve and enrich.
Today, in its 170th year, GCC is the second-oldest surviving Cricket Club in the country, and the premier spot for tennis, squash, and swimming in Philadelphia. Our Club provides preeminent recreational and social experiences and proudly boasts 46 tennis courts (one of the only facilities in the world to offer tennis on all major surfaces), 7 squash courts, 2 pools, a fitness center, bowling alley, restaurant, bar, poolside dining, grand ballroom, and world-class tennis and squash Adult and Junior programs. GCC is so much more than a club—we specialize in shared experiences with family and friends, and wonderful memories to last a lifetime!
